I did sign.

By the way, Steve Lehman is a very old and close friend of mine who would send me long stream of consciousness letters while in Tibet. While a bit dated, still a fascinating insight; check it out:

I felt a need to make this Dead-related: Steve attended Richmond 84 and 85 and Hampton 84 thru 86 shows with me.

Here's a review:

And Steve's latest blog/6 gold star award:

If you're involved in Tibetan affairs, then you've probably come across his name. He stopped his photojournalism a few years back; one of the problems he had was that his photos were used by the Chinese to seek out and punish those in the shots - which the Chinese did this past week or so with the video that came out.

Thank you so much for your reply, bluedevil, and apologies for bugging you about the petition.
I confess I didn't know about Steve's work. I'll bookmark his website and check back later. You will know from Steve, better than me, what is really going on in Tibet. My interest in Tibet came from two friends, who were members of the Dzogchen Community, here in London and who have passed on. It is my memory of them and how much they cared, as well as my admiration, respect and sympathy for the Tibetan people that inspires me to do whatever I can to support them.
I see from Steve's blog that he is also involved in helping in the struggle for democracy in Burma. I was sad for Steve that his photos were used against the people that he obviously loves.

No apologies necessary. I've never been over there myself - I just know through him and some others he introduced me to.

I have a framed cover of his Newsweek Int'l cover for Burma - he's shown me photos of young students laid out in rows with single bullet holes to the skull. What a wonderful, wonderful world...
